2012: 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic

The historic sinking of the Titanic occurred on April 14-15, 1912. The British luxury passenger ship was considered unsinkable when it departed on its maiden voyage from England to the U.S. But a collision with an iceberg caused the ship to sink, resulting in around 1,500 deaths. The disaster has captured public attention for decades.
