2012: India submits its 12th 5-year plan

In 1951, the Planning Commission of the Government of India submitted its first Five Year Plan, aiming to "promote the welfare of the people by securing and protecting as effectively as it may a social order in which justice, social, economic and political, shall inform all the institutions of the national life..." In the following years, some of the Plans have been disrupted by conflict with Pakistan, drought, devaluation of the currency, and other issues. The twelfth Five Year Plan is scheduled to be submitted in 2012.
