2012: U.S. renewable fuel standard of 7.5 billion gallons of biofuel

Under the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established a Renewable Fuel Standard Program, which will increase the volume of renewable fuel required to be blended into gasoline to 7.5 billion gallons by 2012. The EPA is coordinating with the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and stakeholders to "design and implement this first-of-its-kind program".
