2012: China launches its first solar observation spacecraft, the KuaFu
China will lead the KuaFu mission, consisting of three spacecraft in synchronized polar orbit--one "KuaFu-A" and two "KuaFu-B" spacecraft. According to Imperial College London, "KuaFu is the first mission dedicated to the study of space weather from its initiation at the Sun to the deposition of energy in the Earth's atmosphere." Other countries represented on the engineering team include Germany, Belgium, France, and the U.K.
