2008: China replaces Germany as the world's 3rd largest economy
China is currently the single largest country-level contributor to global economic growth. In 2008, it will overtake Germany as the world's third largest economy, behind the U.S. and Japan. In 2007, both economies hovered around the $3 trillion GDP
mark. According to the IMF, China's economy is expected to grow by 10 percent in 2008 - a drop from its peak of 11.5 percent in 2007,
but an extremely high rate nonetheless.
